Show BELL'S BUSIEST DAY OF THE YEAR The busiest day of the year is rapidly approaching for Mountain Bell, and arrangements arrange-ments to handle the expected record number of telephone calls on Christmas Day are being be-ing made. "Over 650 Mountaain Bell employees throughout Utah will be spending part of their Christmas Day at work," Ger- aid Vickers, iocal manager for the telephone company said. "Operators, central office personnel, per-sonnel, repairmen and supervisors super-visors will be working to connect con-nect thousands of telephone calls." According to Vickers, the volume vol-ume of long distance calls placed on Christmas Day runs many times the number placed on an average day. "This means," he commented, "that completing calls without delay will depend on when and how people place their calls." Last year, the company handled han-dled 502.720 long distance calls in Utah alone on the holiday. To help avoid disappointment in making Christmas calls, Vickers offered the following suggestions. First, he urged telephone users to place their calls in the middle of the day, rather than during the early morning a.nd evening hours, which are the two busiest times on Christmas Day. He also explained that customers cus-tomers can speed their calls to their destination by dialing direct. di-rect. High-sn-'ed switching equipment will automatically select the fastest route for direct-dialed calls and will complete com-plete the call faster than an operator can inquire for available avail-able circuits. Utah telephone users may also al-so use the Direct Dailing network, net-work, to obtain a telephone number in any city in the country coun-try by calling universal directory direc-tory assistance service. To use this service, dial "1" plus 555-1212 555-1212 for numbers within Utah; or dial "1" plus the area code 555-1212 to reach out-of-state directory assistance operators. Vickers reminded customers that lowest possible long distance dis-tance rates will apnly throughout through-out Christmas Eve and Christmas Christ-mas Day, starting at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 24, and continuing until 5:00 p.m. Sunday, Sun-day, December 27. By dealing direct on out-of-state calls, customers cus-tomers may call anywhere in the continental United States (except Alaska) for as little as 70c for the first three minutes during this period.
