Nannette Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Jones, and Claude Barnes, son of Mr. and Mrs. LuDean Barnes, received the annual Ray Kizer Citizenship Citizen-ship Award, which consists of a special citation, certificate, and shoulder patch for their class sweaters. Also, each student received a City of Milford check for $27.50 to reimburse them for the cost of their sweater. The awards were presented by Mayor Ira M. Fisher, who congratulated the students on their achievement, and also lauded their parents for "raising "rais-ing these kind of children." The first Ray Kizer Citizenship Citizen-ship Award was presented in 1956, when Mr. Kizer was Mayor of Milford and has since been presented annually to stduents selected by a committee com-mittee including teachers, business bus-iness men and law enforcement officers. Purpose of the award, as stated by Mayor Kizer when he first presented it, is "to give the students an incentive to develop de-velop better citizenship traits and maintain an awareness of the benefits of good citizenship." |
