Show CHURCHMEN SET SERVICES AT CAPITOL FOR NEXT SUNDAY Utah Catholics and Protestants Protest-ants will join in a Service for Christian Unity at the Utah State Capitol Rotunda Sunday, Jan. 22, at3 p. m. The interfaith service will be an "ecumenical first" for this area, said The Rev. John J. Sullivan, chairman of the Ecumenical Ecu-menical Commission of the Catholic Diocese of Salt Lake City. The program is part of an international week of prayer pray-er for Christian Unity observed annually from Jan. 18 to 25 ' by Catholics and Protestants alike. . Sunday's meeting is the result re-sult of the joint planning of representatives of the Salt Lake Ministerial Association, the Utah Council of Churches, the Salt Lake Council of Churches and the Salt Lake Catholic Diocesan Ecumenical Commission, Commis-sion, A statement issued by the joint committee for Sunday's observance said: "Keynote of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 1967 Is 'Hope.' Each year witnesses an ever-increasing volume of prayer for this intention. Such concerted effort, inspired by the Holy Spirit, gives additional addi-tional reason for Christian hope. The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity is a special time for offering thanksgiving for the gifts God has preserved in each of the Christian traditions tradi-tions and prayer for the guld- ance of the Holy Spirit that we may be responsive to tha opportunities1 God is giving us ior a fuller manifestation of our unity in His Son. "The service on Sunday, Jan. 22, in the heart of this week of prayer, is aimed to bring together all Christians that we may be reminded once again of Christ's prayer at the Last Supper, 'That all may be one,'( pnd to make His prayer ours as well." The service is open to the general public. |
