Show DON'T BE FOOLED BY THE PHONY ROOSTER (Reprinted from the Millard Co. (Fillmore) Progress) Last week end a large majority of people in East Millard (West Beaver) County received free copies of a new newspaper called "The Rooster Valley Shopper," put out by the Reaper Publishing Company of Richfield, Utah. On the front page was a bold editorial proclaiming proclaim-ing "Something to Crow About," which went on to say that the publication is going into 6400 select homes in this area. Of course a shopper of this type has but one goal to sell merchandise and it was full of advertisements and a few news items of general interest. The people who fall for this line are certainly helping to build up a community far from home, and the only benefits they may reap are a few pennies on a few specials, while they are helping to destroy their own communities. The stores in East Millard (West Beaver) carry merchandise mer-chandise that need take second place to no lines. At the same time these large taxpayers help to make a community com-munity that is worth living in. They help to give us good streets, good electrical systems, new water lines and a whole lot of services your city government is able to offer only so long as the people in the community are prospering. We in this area are particularly vulnerable now, because we need something to plug an economical gap. This is a situation that can only be worsened if we take our dollars to an area such as Richfield, or any other city. The "Rooster Valley Shopper" doesn't give a hoot about people in this area; all they want is money, your money. But your own local newspaper is published just for you and for your best interests. It carries all the news of all the towns in East Millard Mil-lard (West Beaver), events that have or are about to take place. (Merchants who advertise in shoppers published in other communities are helping to build those other communities. We continually strive to boost and promote this area. We tell what the local stores have to sell, and we take as much pains with a classified ad telling of a used stove for sale as we do for a large advertisement proclaiming pro-claiming local furniture or roofing bargains. (We're all smiles when a big one comes our way, of course). If you live in Fillmore (Miiford) and are looking for a house to rent, you can find it in The Progress (The Beaver Co. News), not in "Rooster Valley Shopper (or the News Advertiser). These are only a few of the things your hometown newspaper has to offer. And bargains? Don't be bilked by the Crowing Rooster. In a grocery ad we found a special on roast beef for 55c a pound at a local market, whereas the same cut of beef was advertised in the shopper for 79c. We found building products the same way, also used cars and ladies dresses. True, there were- a few leader prices to sucker you to Richfield. Let's build East Millard (West Beaver) not Richfield. Rich-field. After all, there isn't one of us here who doesn't have some stake in the community, whether it be a home, a job, a farm, or a wholesome place in which to rear our families. |
