Show Milford Schools Draw Board's Attention Here The Beaver County School Board met Wednesday, Jan. 5th at Milford in the Elementary Elemen-tary building. Twelve applications were read by the board for position of custodian of the elementary school. Finally Norm Lamb nominated George Sears for the job at the elementary and John Jones, Milford was hired to replace Sears at the high school. Mr. Briggs, principal of the Grade school gave a report on the facility. He said his staffi this year had worked together very well. A new program is in process called "Volunteer Listeninj Program." Sixteen women par-1 ticipate with 1st and 2nd graders. grad-ers. The parents don't listen tc their own child read, so the child reads more freely. Tthis program is designed mainly for slower readers. He reported that new teachers teach-ers Jensen and Taylor were fitting in well with the system His only comment on the building build-ing was that the back patio is breaking up. Several ladies attended the meeting and complained abou'J several high school teachers and several instances which they felt could have been handled hand-led much better by the school administrators. Bids were opened on the new school bus. Ron's Crev. bid $12,350 Ward Body; $12,400 for Blue Bird Body. John Riley $12,032 Ward body, $13,171.45 for Blue Bird body. Riley bid $575 on air brakes and Ron's Chev. $1,200. The Board moved that they would buy bus with Blue Bird body from Ron's Chev and brakes from Riley, t Milford High principal Jesse E. Long reported that the schocj year had gotten off to a very good start, staff-wise. He also remarked that the testing program is indicating indicat-ing that the teaching personnel are organizing the education program very well. More emphasis em-phasis on vocation. He said the high school was in need of a student center, so the students will have a place to go and relax. re-lax. He said that pantsuits for the girls have relieved a lot of tension. We have had some problems with hair he said, but overall there are no serious problems. When asked about driver education, ed-ucation, he explained that the simulator, used before behind the wheel training, was broken down in Delta and they had been trying to get it to Milford for some time. President Karl Truman made a comment on what the state had said about Milford High. He reported they said that Mil-ford's Mil-ford's Shop and Business departments de-partments were the best in the state. I A discussion was held on new building facilities in Beaver County. It was suggested that a bond be put out to the public pub-lic to vote on new high school facilities in both ends of the county. |
