Show DEER STUDIED ALONG IREEWAY ROUTE A study to determine deer movements across proposed I-15 I-15 freeway south of Beaver Is underway. Deer along a five-mile five-mile stretch of Beaver Ridge are being observed by a U.ah Division of Wildlife Resources game biologist to determine patterns of movement across the exsting highway as they migrate to winter range on the west. The new Highway I-1 5 will parallel present Highway 91. The animals will be trapped on both sides of Highway 91 and marked with ear tags and colored collars. Hunter returns of collars and tags will help determine to what extent deer cross the highway. Some deer will also be fitted with radio transmitters so their movements can be monitered. The Utah State Highway Department, De-partment, after counsel wi'.h the Division, plans to build overpasses ov-erpasses and underpasses for the deer to utilize. The- study will continue after construction of the highway is completed to evaluate the merits of the two types of structures. Construction Con-struction is scheduled to begin in the fall of 1973. |
