Show MARY SIMFliS INJURED !N AUTO ACCIDENT, SPENDS NIGHT IN CAR IN BELOW ZERO TEMPERATURE By SALLIE WILLIAMS A Milford woman was reported re-ported in serious condition in the Beaver County Hospital Hos-pital Thursday, recovering from an eight-hour ordeal when she lay injured, in subzero sub-zero weather after a one-car auto accident 20 miles west of Milford on Utah Highway 21. The accident occurred on Christmas Eve. Mrs. Mary Simpkins left Milford about midnight Christmas Christ-mas Eve.. She was found about 7 a. m. by Boyd Coates, of the Wah Wah Ranch, and brought to the Beaver County Hospital at Milford. ' According to Deputy Sheriff Don Alger, who investigated, the car left the highway, traveled trav-eled 227 feet on the right shoulder, almost 300 feet on the pavement out of control, then 270 feet on the left side of the highway where it hit a wash, crumpling the left front wheel, and came to a stop 102 feet past the wash. The car did not turn over. The windshield and the right front door glass were both broken out, affording no protection pro-tection from the below-zero temperature. According to Dr. E. N. Davie, attending physician, Mrs. Simp-kins Simp-kins was in critical condition when admitted to the hospital, suffering from severe frostbite, fracture of both legs, head injuries, in-juries, and multiple contusions and abrasions. He stated that her condition is improving. |
