Show assembly for Mr. Paice were his daughters Phillis and Marvin Mar-vin White and four children, Ileene and three children, Shirley and two girls. At the banquet of the History His-tory Dept. of the BYU three scholarships were given. One of which as given to Maurice M. Tanner, of Phoenix, Ariz, whose father, the late Maurice Tanner formerly resided in Beaver. Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Cox and son Sam were among the dinner guests of Mr. and Mrs King Morris on Mother's Day Others were: Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morris, Mr. and Mrs. Dan Atkin. Following the dinner din-ner Mrs. Cox and son Sam drove to Panguitch to visit Mrs. Rebecca Orton and Sam sang two solos in church at night. "Gallway Bay" and "May the Good Lord Bless and Keep You." 9 At the Belknap award assembly as-sembly among those receiving awards was Mrs. Veda DeMai. She was presented a beautiful gift from the employees of the Belknap School as a retirement retire-ment gift after having spent 21 years with the school lunch program. She has been very faithful there and will be greatly missed from her post. Mrs. Cora Lindsay has been in Salt Lake visiting her three sisters and two brothers who reside there. She was gone three days. Miss Julie Ann Farrer has been asked to join the Honorary Honor-ary Student Tutoring Society Sigma Tau Sigma at the CSU. This is a group composed of one student from every field who have a 3.6 average or above. The duties of these students are to help others who need help in their particular field, to raise the scholastic standards of the school. This is quite an honor for Julie Ann considering the large number of students the CSU have. Her department will be drama. A letter was received here informing the people of Beaver Bea-ver that Joe. Woodbury, of El Cajone, California, had been the victim of a burgler in his apt.house and had to spend 6 weeks in a hospital and was now in a rest home in Long Beech. Mrs. Edna Crosby under went major surgery in the Iron County Hospital on Tuesday. Mr. and Mrs. Lafe Bradshaw Brad-shaw were happy to have two of the members of the LDS Church, from the mission in which they labored, in Atlanta, At-lanta, Georgia, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Wood and son Darel, who is going to the BYU, come and take them through the canyons in Southern Utah last week end. Mrs. Sharon Bowen of Salt Lake City came down for the graduation of her friend Miss Rosalind Farnsworth. She will remain here for a few days when her husband will come and they will go through the canyons in Southern Utah and Arizona. OPEN HOUSE On Sunday,, June 4, from 1 to 4 p. m. Mrs. Ed Murdock and Mrs. Sara Bakes are having hav-ing an open houst at the home of the latter, in honor of the 90th birthday of Mrs. Belle Bakes. She was born in Beaver June 4, 1871, to Wm. and Mary Isabell Wardrop, of good pioneer pio-neer ancestry, and has lived here ever since. The family feel they would like to have her friends call on her but they request no gifts. The Beaver Betterment Committee Com-mittee is noticing improvements improve-ments in many of the places around town. A new foundation found-ation for a home has been made on the lots owned by Mr. and Mrs. Carlos Murdock, west from their home, on which the home now at 330 South Main will be placed, and the corner now at the approach of our city will be landscaped, and maybe further improved. The home of Mr. and Mrs. Blake Smith has been undergoing under-going new grounds improvements. |
