Show Beaver County Residents Drew $19,000 In Social Securty in '60 Residents of Beaver County received social security benefits bene-fits of $19,247 per month during dur-ing 1960, Senator Frank E. Moss reported this week. An average of 319 persons in Beaver qualified every month for benefits, including old age, survivors, and disability dis-ability insurance, he said. Some 55,449 Utahns, about one out of every 16, received benefits totaling $42,170,000 for the year. "These figures point up the importance of the social security se-curity program to the nation," Senator Moss said. "Last year almost 15 million Americans received payments of almost a billion dollars every month through this great insurance system," he said. "Although started as a measure mea-sure to help overcome the .great depression, social security se-curity has been one of the most important stabilizing influences influ-ences on our economy," Moss said. "And since its adoption both the sales of life insurance insur-ance and the establishment of corporate retirement systems have grown tremendously. The social security system becomes more valuable as we lengthen our life span," he said. "Of all Americans 65 or older, nearly three out of four receive monthly benefits or are eligible to receive them when they or their spouses retire," he said. |
