Show State Game Commission Sets Regular Hunts The 1960 seasons for deer, elk, antelope, moose, and buffalo hunting hunt-ing have been set by the Utah Board of Big Game Control. A statewide general deer season sea-son will begin October 22, with an 11-day or longer hunt, scheduled for taking animals of either sex. . The board also set several special spe-cial hunts to channel hunting pressure pres-sure into many of the state's 62 deer herd units where field information infor-mation showed a more equitable harvest was needed to balance herds, according to a news release from the Utah Department of Fish and Game. A statewide archery deer season was set for Sept. 3 through Sept. 18. A total of 2,375 elk permits were authorized for 14 hunting units. Antelope hunts were set to allow 160 buck-only permits over seven hunting areas. Twenty permits were authorized author-ized for hunting bull moose on the northeast slopes of the Uinta Mountains. The board also authorized 10 permits for hunting mature buffalo bulls from the only state-owned herd of these animals, which range in the Hanksville-Henry Mountain area of southeastern Utah. By law, only residents may hunt elk, antelope, moose, and buffalo. Full rules and regulations covering cov-ering all the big game hunting seasons will be printed in proclamation procla-mation form and made available to the public by the latter part of July. Copies may then be had from Department of Fish and Game offices of-fices or from license agents throughout the state. |
