Show REASONS LISTED FOR BUILDING NURSING HOME There are 16 million Americans Ameri-cans today who are over 65 years of age. By 1970 it is ex- pected that this figure will reach 21 million. Using these figures on a percentage per-centage basis, the 70 persons in Beaver County over 65 years of age who participate in the state welfare program could be expected expect-ed to increase to about 96 persons per-sons by 1970. It is estimated that there are 20 persons in need of Rest Home care in Beaver County today. Only a few of these people are in rest homes, because accommodations accom-modations are riot avaialble. Again using the figures representing rep-resenting the national trend of increasing old age population, by 1970 we could expect to have in Beaver County about 26 persons per-sons requiring the services of a home for the aged. In connection with planning of the new hospital- facility at Milford Mil-ford it has been estimated that a 10-bed -unit equipped as a home for the aged could be attached at-tached to the hospital building at ' a cost of approximately $40,-000. $40,-000. This plan would utilize jointly the kitchen, laundry, housekeeping and administrative facilities of the hospital, thus reducing re-ducing the construction cost of a nursing home by approximately $135,000, and subsequent operational opera-tional cost by an undetermined but substantial amount. Authorities on care of the aged frequently point up the advantages ad-vantages of nursing homes being built adjacent to or incorporated into hospitals. Among the most important of these is the constant con-stant availability of hospital facilities fa-cilities in case they are needed and the day to day professional supervision of doctors and nurses nurs-es in the case of these people, at little or no increased cost. It would seem pertinent in the discussion of Beaver County's need for a rest home that we apply a few questions to ourselves our-selves personally. Do you have or will you soon have someone in your own family circle who will need and benefit by nursing home care in a few years? A high percentage of Beaver County Coun-ty residents woud answer yes to this. To go one step further, have you given any thought to your own needs as an oldster? As a Senior Citizen will you face the loneliness of a home, alone, which you are not able to maintain main-tain to your satisfaction or perhaps per-haps sharing a home with your children or other relatives? Perhaps you would prefer to use your influence as a voter, now, and see that a Rest Home is available for you and yours when you need it. |
