Show YWMIA Board Member Delights Stake Audience By EMILY GILLINS A Sacred To Me program for Laurel, Mia Maids, Ensigns, and Explorer classes and parents of the Beaver Stake Mutual Improvement Associations was held in Beaver First-Third Ward LDS chapel with the chapel overflowing in attendance. attend-ance. The meeting was conducted by Mrs. Fae Muir Harris, YWMIA stake counselor, who introduced the guest speaker, Mrs. Margaret Lomer of the MIA general board, from Salt Lake City. This inspiring speaker, a convert to the LDS Church from Sweden, who has been in Salt Lake City for 19 years and is the mother of three children, one son presently on an LDS mission, completely captivated captivat-ed the audience with her Swedish accent, her sense of humor, and her down-to-earth good sense in the advice she gave to teenage girls and their parents. She pointed out that girls could have all kinds of fun, and keep their standards high, by being clean, by confiding in their parents, par-ents, and by not "going steady," emphasizing the better fun of going go-ing in groups and not spending the whole evening dancing with one partner. She reminded her young listeners that it is the breaking down of one's reserve the first time that is dangerous since the next time comes so much easier. There were program numbers from Milf ord and Minersville and selections by a chorus of young women from Beaver, directed by Mrs. Mona Lowe. 1 Later in the evening, in the serving room downstairs, the guest of'honor sang several selections in Swedish, accompanying herself on the piano, and delighting her listeners lis-teners with her yodeling. Mrs. Bernice Gillins, stake YWMIA YW-MIA president, escorted the guest around the 'room, introducing her to board members and special visitors. visi-tors. Gerald Finch of the Beaver LDS Seminary staff, addressed the' Ensign En-sign and Explorer groups of boys ' in a separate meeting. |
