Show Construction of New Minersville School Being Pushed The new Minersville Elementary school building, designed to include in-clude the 7th and 8th grades as well as the lower grades, is rapidly taking shape, with the bricklaying bricklay-ing nearly half completed, despite the fact that construction did not get underway until March 15. The contract, amounting to $238,934. was awarded to Carter Brothers of Monticello, originally from Minersville. Architects for the building are Gardner & Ras-mussen Ras-mussen of Cedar City. Residents generally are disappointed disap-pointed over the size and facilities facili-ties of the plan, however. Although Al-though it will be a new and modern mod-ern ibuilding, it will not offer the students some of the advantages enjoyed in the old building, which was condemned as a fire hazard, inadequate heating facilities, poor lighting, etc. The new plans include six class rooms, but one of these rooms will function also as a home economics eco-nomics room. Another room is actually ac-tually the stage of the all-purpose room, which is separated by a folding curtain. Other plans include a principal's office, faculty room, and shop quarters. However, there is no facility fa-cility to play basketball, no showers, show-ers, and allowances for seating audiences at school functions, as done in the old building, are completely com-pletely inadequate. There is no lunch room nor plans for a library. The enrollment at the school is close to 170. Completion of the school is scheduled for January 1, 1960. |
