Show Forest Service Reports Best-Year Safety Record The Intermountain Region of the U.S. Forest Service experienced exper-ienced in 1957 one of the safest working years in its 52 - year history, announced Regional Forester Floyd Iverson. Mr Iverson praised the efforts eff-orts of all U.S. Forest Service personnel in the Intermountain Region who have worked hard to attain this safety record. The personnel of the eighteen national forests worked a total .of 2,957,427 man-hours in 1957 without a fatal accident. There was a 17 percent decrease m "accident frequency rate" - the number of lost - time injuries as compared to the total man-hours man-hours worked. In the past 17 years the progressive pro-gressive U.S . Forest Service safety program has reduced the "accident frequency rate" more than 80 percent. Mr. Iverson said this has been accomplished even though the U.S. Forest Service activities encompass many dangerous work situations. situa-tions.
