Show NEXT SATURDAY IS POPPY DAY Millions of Americans and hundreds of Beaver County residents will wear bright red poppies on Saturday, May 25, to honor the memory of America's dead in the two World Wars and the Korean Conflict. Ladies of the American Legion Le-gion Auxiliary in Milford, Beaver and Minersville will be on the streets early in the morning and all through the day with baskets of the memorial memor-ial flowers to pin on the coats of passers-by. Proceeds from the sale of the 25 million poppies made annually annu-ally by veterans in hospitals throughout the nation, under guidance of the American Legion Le-gion Auxiliary, amounts to more than $2 million, every penny of which is used in rehabilitation reha-bilitation work, a program carried car-ried out by both the American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary, Auxil-iary, and which includes aid to needy veterans and their families. fam-ilies. More than $300,000 is paid annually to needy and disabled service men and women for making the poppies. w |
