Show P:-.Be 3 November 13, 1933 INTRAMURAL TEAMS ACTIVE Starting the year with a horseshoe pitching contest and a tennis tournament, intramural activities have taken an important position in the field of Weber College sports. There is always a great deal of enthusiasm shown in campus scraps, especially when there are many entrants in the events and a majority of the students are either being represented by their teams or participating themselves. While the horseshoe pitching contest and the tennis meet were run off prior to the organizing of most of the group majors, interest was not lacking. Lynn Foley played consistently to nose his way to the championship in horseshoes. Ca.l r.ellislon, who is in charge of all intramural contests, has now received word from ten differentorganization- that tlicy will be represented by at least one team in tin- mxt event, the basketball playoff. These teams will pa-tiripale: the Faculty, College Inn Boosters. Delta Phi fraternity, Fatum, Fralre, Yoemen, EEngineers, Education Nfajors, Butchers and the Liars. Quite a combination for a hectic campaign. The play schedule will start this week. Before the first inm-M are pl.iyei, it v.-ill be definitely decided .s u themetheds of rating the winning and los- i m Two plans have been worked out, cither of which -liould prove satisfactory. If the games can be played off fast enough to finish the tournament on the date appointed the teams will probably play in a round robin tournament, giving each team a chance at each other team entered. If it is decided that this plan would take too much time, the boys will probably play in an elimination tournament, with losing teams dropping out after the first round. Aside from the enthusiasm shown by the student body, Hindi good js bound tci result from the forthcoming battles in giving the coaches an opportunity to look over prospective material for the regular varsity squad. Following the basketball contests teams representing these same clubs will begin a series of water polo games, "'he learns will be built around experienced men now learning this sport in their regular gymnasium workouts. Basketball and water polo will concltic the intramural sports for this quarter. "Clubs can make or break school spirit," said Director Belliston. Then some one else up and suggested that maybe Weber needs a few more clubs if they would really help. The various camps are preparing for combat, and the a-lus of battle will be well ground into the wax floor before long. BASKET BALL SEASON APPROACHES With the laying away of the football togs comes the excitement of preparing for the hard-floor games. Weber is placed in a rather peculiar position in that she has plenty of offers for games, plenty of good material to work with, -- plenty of coaching ability but no money with which to 5 carry out the schedule. Plans are being made to provide for basketball, and prospects are getting brighter. FOOTBALL SEASON ENDS Weber College closed its league football season with one victory, one loss, and two ties, defeating Westminster in the final game, 21-0. This unenviable record, according to vague unauthentic reports, is sufficient for Weber to claim the Intermountain Junior College championship. Branch A. C. is eliminated by ineligibility of certain players; Ricks "played too few league games to be considered; and Weber is left the championship by a process of elimina- tion. We'll hear more about the truth of this claim later. o ONE: Do you know how far apart your ears are? TWO: No, how far is it? ONE: A block.
