Show Wednesday, April 6, 2005 Page 11 The Signpost Tennis continued from page 9 Elana Smit, battled hard, but faltered in a three-set thriller, 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 to nationally ranked Lauren Fitzgerald. Second seed Alexandria Ilie topped off her week with another dominating performance as she cruised to a two-set win. Her battle with the Rainbows' Sylvia Janos didn't finish as Janos retired due to a sprain in her right wrist. This comes on the heels of a loss last week against Utah State and directly after Janos was named the Big Sky Conference athlete of the week in tennis. Justine Boulet, who hails from Quebec, Canada, continued the Hawaii dominance as she was able to upend Weber State senior Chelsie Drews in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2 in the No. 3 singles match. The Wildcats' Karla Pretorius was the first to finish her match, making short work of Paige Mainor in their singles match on court No. 3, 6-1, 6-2. Pretorius also teamed with Drews in the doubles to win. Meanwhile, the late match of the day came upon Hawaii's Kimberly Curtis and Weber State's Gaby Venditto. Both players were exhausted for most of the match, but it was Curtis who was able to overcome a one set deficit and rally for a 4-6,6-1, 6-3 victory. Venditto was winded and looked to have a cramp in her leg muscle after the match was over. WSU tennis player Chelsee Drews serves the ball during a doubles match Tuesday afternoon.
