Show The Signpost Wednesday, December 8,2004 Ski continued from page 16 deal. You just dig around a little bit and find your ski. After about 15 minutes of digging and probing the snow, I called Tyler. Luckily, my phone got service up there. "I lost my ski, dude, but I shouldn't be much longer. I'll find it in a minute," I said. About a half-hour later, I was beginning to get a little sweaty and had resorted to doggy-style digging. "Yeah, dude, maybe you better let ski patrol know I'm up here," I said. "I'm sure I'll find it soon, though." My excavation was now about 20 feet in diameter and pretty much down to rocks and grass at this point. One last call. "OK dude, 1 can't find my bleeping ski," 1 said. "I'm gonna look for five more minutes, then I'm coming down." 1 had my coat off and it was getting dark when my phone rang. "Hey, this is Kapp with the ski patrol," the voice said. "You're gonna need to start heading down. I'll meet you on the groomer and take you down on the toboggan." The toboggan? If I'm going to ride out on a toboggan, I'd better be missing a limb! There was no way I was riding out on a toboggan. Skiing on one ski is a lot harder than you might think. The toboggan ride wasn't too bad. Luckily, only my friends were there to laugh at me. The ski patrol was helpful and understanding. I filled out a lost ski report, which basically means they'll call you in the spring with your ski. I probably shouldn't be so bitter about the snow. It's nobody's fault but my own. I guess I could blame it on the gremlin. Experience Page 17 continued from page 16 also lost at Winthrop two nights before an impressive comefrom-behind victory over Elon. Against UW-Green Bay, Weber State allowed the Phoenix to shoot 66 percent from the field and forced just five turnovers. The Phoenix had four players in double figures as they improved to 4-1 on the year, their best start in seven years. There have been good signs for the Wildcats, however, even during the two losses. In both of those contests, WSU dominated the boards, with a margin of +9 in both games. The 'Cats' frontline continues to show much promise, led by center Lance Allred, who had 20 points and nine rebounds against UWGreen Bay. It seems to be momentary breakdowns that are hindering the Wildcats. Following a home win on Nov. 23, Cravens complained about the team straying from instruction too frequently during games. He said the things his staff coaches during practices all too often go unapplied by his team during games. Against UW-Green Bay, it was a span of nine minutes in the first half that did in the 'Cats. During tha( stretch, the Phoenix outscored WSU 25-6 to build a strong 17-point lead. Weber State made just four of 15 field goal attempts while turning the ball over seven times during those same nine minutes. Still, the Wildcats need not hang their heads low. Cravens knew from the start that his team was going to have to learn some lessons the hard way. However, the catch will be how long it takes these lessons to sink in. The 'Cats have a chance to bounce back tonight at home against in-state rival Southern Utah. How the Wildcats react to hard losses and a trying road swing will provide a good glimpse of the team's character.
