Show Future From front page ceived his masters degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in June of 1964. He earned a degree in language and literature at the University of Texas, then went on to earn a science degree for space exploration at MIT. "I'm a knowledge junkie," Lee said. "I love to learn." Lee has been involved with space exploration for over 25 years. He held several leadership positions for NASA's Viking mission which landed two spacecraft on the surface of Mars. For the past 15 years, Lee said he has made his living being on contract with different companies. He is hired for a period of time to do a job. His contracts have included working as the chief engineer for NASA's Project Galileo to designing video games. He predicts this type of employment for the future. "You guys are in for a big change in your work life. Employment will disappear, virtually," Lee said. "By the time you're ready to retire, only 20 percent of the people will be employed. Eighty percent of the people will have personal portfolios and they will work on task-oriented contracts for a certain period of time here and a certain period of time there." Institutions and universities will become specialized, Lee said, and there will be no reason to have so many things going on in one place."We simply can't afford it," he said. "Society cannot afford to have so many different places doing all these different things." Lee said in the 21st century there will be a small work force and society will rely heavily on free entertainment. People who go to school for a skill will have to keep going back because the skill they acquire will be taken over by machines. "In the future you are going to have to be responsible for yourself," Lee said. "I envision a society in which 20 to 40 percent of the people will work and are productive and produce new things and more than half the people never work once in their entire lives." Lee's optimism may be difficult for some to grasp, however there are those who agree with BEEHIVE SELF STORAGE 1890 Wau. "He looks at the way things are evolving, and the way human beings and technology are evolving and he sees the direction we're going in as big challenges and possibilities of finding answers to questions that we have," coordinator of WSU's diversity center, Sofia Garcia said. "If we don't keep up, somebody will use it to their advantage." Lee's works as a novelist include "Cradle," "Rama II," "The Garden of Rama," and "Rama Revealed," co-authored with science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke. Lee has a new novel titled "Bright Messengers" to be released in two weeks. People often ask Lee if he believes in God. His perception of God may best be exhibited in his novel "Rama II" where one of the characters is a devout Irish Ca tho-lic who reaches a point where he realizes "God is everything I can think of him to be and everything I can't think of him to be." "God didn't put himself there for us to translate," Lee said. "God is God and we are to observe his wonders then maybe along the way we will understand a slight piece of what God is all about." Thursday morning, Lee visited WSU's center for aerospace technology, where students are part of a satellite project Lee helped begin. Lee said WSU joined with the University of New Hampshire and a British university, and that group is one of only three selected to develop plans for the project. mMmL urn- b Come See What the Advlco Law Really Is! 2- Room SS213 Room SS217 Room SS239 Room SS274 Cd Hurt on the Job?: Medical Landlord's Rights: The Best interest Utah's worker's Malpractive: A Foolproof Eviciton of the Child: Compensation Patients view Techniques Custody in Utah CO Law, o " Mr. Backman Mr. Houtz Mr. Jones Ms. Lowrey 3t Room SS217 Room SS233 Room SS274 Room SS276 Cj Eviction Rights Sex and Violence: DUI: The Law in Your Rights and fm and Remedies Criminal Law Utah Your Divorce for Tenants Mr. Jones Mr. Helgesen Mr. Backman Ms. Lowrey Room SS219 Room SS239 Room SS347 Room SS276 w sg Navigating the How to Avoid the Personal Injury: Write Your Social Security Probate Trap: Who Pays and Own Will!
