He said the avenue of free-flow information is like a library to allow people free access to sources world-wide. "It's an unrestricted idea exchange," Stock said. "There is the ability to access all types of people, both just for interest, as well as commercially." Commercially, the Internetcan be used as a catalog source for calling and ordering, and for seeing the finished product before you buy. "All you have to do is send an image of yourself to the company you're ordering from, and they'll put you in that outfit, and you can see what it looks like even before you receive it in the mail," Stock said. Many opportunities are available to WSU students by using the Internet. Students can check into a wide variety of things from weather forecasts, catalog orders, travel and car rental information, and press coverage, to information specific to WSU and other universities across thecountry. It's all there. "Our connection comes from the University of Utah, and the link is supported by state funding," McGrath said. "The whole system was started by the National Science Foundation, which is federally funded. In an effort to cut down federal expenditures, the cost is slowly shifting to users themselves." Stock said for WSU students, as well as users across the world, more advantages can be expected in the future as well. "Technology keeps expanding and broadening our horizons," he said. "There will be a day when people will use voice access, talking through their computers, to eliminate long distance calling by phone. The sound quality is there, so it's worth it. "Another advantage will be the portable documentation format, where magazines and other publications will become available for display on the Internet, showing magazines and newspapers as they really look, where the graphics just come flying at you," Stock said. With WSU's part of the World Wide Web, people across the coun try can gain information about Weber State University, Stock said. He said the Internet has become a great resource in recruiting new students and people interested in our campus. "Every so often we take a survey to see what our web needs," saic. Stock. "Because there is no limit on the things we can put in, we take into consideration what information people want. Anything from the class schedule lists to basketball scores. It can be there if people are interested in putting it there. Students need to tell us what they want to see." ft Weekly Bible Study Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m. Shepherd Union Room 330 Join us for an hour of Bible study and fellowship as we study the Letter to the Hebrews.
