Show May 12, 1993 The Signpost 15 Three Wildcat Lady Netters snubbed By PATTY BENDER Jk Signpost sports writer The Weber State University Lady Netter's season is over unless Nicky Wangsgard, Nadine March and Sarah Hewing are invited and come in at the last minute at the NCAA Championships. O All three did well during the year only losing a handful of matches between the three of them. Noonecould haveguessed that two players that had never met until the beginning of the fall quarter would click together so well on the court. HewingandMarchachieved the rank of the 39th doubles team in the nation. However, that does not automatically qualify them to go to the NCAA Championships. The NCAA committee chooses the ex-0 tra teams that were invited. Hewing and March were chosen to be the fifth doubles team, but for them to play, five teams would have to drop out from the draw of 32 doubles teams. Although the chances are slim, it could happen. Last year eight teams dropped out unexpectedly. The loss tha t took place i n Hew- - (TT . Wangsgard was hoping to go to the NCAA tournament as an extra singles player, but for the first time in her career at WSU, she had a major upset. And it didn't happen on the court. WSU's Cox to run in Oregon meet The Weber State University's track team will be idle this week in preparation for the Big Sky Conference Track and Field Championship May 19-22 in Spokane, Wash. However, coach Jim Blaisdell will be taking sophomore Shawna Cox to Eugene, Ore., to compete in the Oregon Twilight Meet on Saturday evening. Cox ran an NCAA provisional time of 2:07.79 in the 800 meters last week at Boise State University. The time was her personal best and is currently ranked in the 13th spot out of 16 that advance to the NCAA Championship.Cox's 800-meter time is also the third fastest time ever run in the Big Sky Conference and the previous Mountain West Athletic Conference. "Conferencemeetsarecom-ing up all over the country," Blaisdell said, "and we feel Shawna needs to run at least a second faster to stay in the top 16 and be able to go to New Orleans for the NCAA Championships."
