Show 12 The Signpost Monday, January 27, 1992 Hall receives NCAA scholarship By ANDREA PETERSON Asst. Sports editor of The Signpost Each year the National Colle giate Athletic Association awards 125 postgraduate scholarships. The scholarships are for $5,000 and are awarded on the basis of academic achievement, athletic achievement and extracurricular activities.Of those scholarships, 29 are awarded to DAVE football players. This year, one of those football players was Weber State Wide Receiver Dave Hall. Now, if that name sounds familiar to you, it should. Hall is the student body vice-president for Academics at Weber State. He also helped lead the Wildcat football team to the best season they have had since 1987 and another appearance in the Division I-AA Playoffs. Hall is majoring in English and carries a 3.20 GPA and was. selected to the Big Sky ConferenceAll-Academic team. As for his athletic achievements, Hall caught 73 passes this year for 1,043 yards and 10 touchdowns. He averaged 6.64 catches per game and over 15 yards a catch in 1 1 games. He was also selected to the Sports Network I-AA All-American Second Team. Along with being the academic vice president, Hall is president of the traditional Student Senate, is on the Dean's Council, Faculty Senate and is in charge of Open Hour. Hall is also a Student and a member of Project Suc cess, among HALL other com mittees and groups. "I think that's what set me apart," Hall said of hisextra-curricular activities. There are two student-athletes from each school in the country that apply for this scholarship, and the NCAA narrows the field down to the 125 winners. "I was excited to get it," Hall said. "And a little surprised." Hall plans to use his scholarship in the fall of 1993 to go to business school at "the biggest and best place" that will take him.
