VOLLEYBALL RESULTS: Brent Massey and Bear Perrin of "Brent's team" took first in the men's pool A competition, Mark Giles and Bryan Dee of the "Shankers" took first in the men's pool B division. By CRAIG HALL Sportswriter of The Signpost Sneakers, knee pads and skin hit the hardwood floors in the HPEC complex where the 2-on-2 1 ntramural Volleyball Tournament was held. Saturday's play, originally scheduled for outdoors, was forced inside due to cool weather. The tournament format con- . sisted of three divisions: Men's, Women's and Co-rec; in either competitive or recreational leagues. Play was divided up into three pools. Brent Massey and Bear Perrin of "Brent's" team took home the T- shirts in the men's pool A competitive division. The duo didn't miss a beat from last weeks first place finish in the Sunfest volleyball tournament. 'There's not enough competition here to really get into it," said Perrin. Both Perrin and Massey came from the sand courts of California. "You're more likely to get injured on indoor courts, especially if you don't know the steps or rolls," said Perrin. Perrin, an assistant coach for WSU's Women's volleyball team, said Massy is a better indoor player and he's the better out door player. The closest competition for Brent's team came from Brook Williams and Mark Oakey of the B25's. During their match some controversy broke out. The dispute was over the illegal useof fingers in directing the ball. Despite the small disagreement, both teams remembered sportsmanship and play resumed. "Hey, we finished second to Brent's team. ..we can live with that," said Williams. Mark Giles and Bryan Dee of the "Shankers" won the men's pool B competitive division. The women's division winners were Kyri and Sabrina Bradley. The sister tandem won by default; however, they competed in pool C with the Co-rec division. Winners of the Co-rec division were Kristen Roserio and Ray Franklin. Roserio, a member of WSU's Women's Volleyball team, displayed her talent with some crisp serves. "Kristen kept things together for us," said Franklin. Paulette Calvert and Doug Pratt, who competed in the Co-rec division, play on an intramural volleyball team at DDO. They were using the tournament to prepare for the Corporate Olympics this summer. Pratt, an evening CIS instructor at Weber said, 'This tournament is cheaper than going to the movies, and it's something I enjoy doing." Saturday's participants were just out to have a good time. Teammates Jeff Judkins and Dave Hyllestd, who played in the recreation division, were just "hangin out." "We smile too much out there," said Hyllestd. In the end, despite the floor burns, the bruises and theachy bodies; there were plenty of smiles as another weekend of intramural competition had ended. "This tournament is cheaper than going to the movies, and it's something I enjoy doing." Doug Pratt WSU Instructor n.
