Show THE SICNPOST 7 Sports Dr. Belnap completes 30 years at Weber Friday, May 10, 1991 By Jennifer Pratt Staff writer of The agnpost "He's outstanding, well-respected by all, dedicated, committed and has continued to be a contributor to VVSU." This is how Coach Dave Arselanian explained what kind of coach and person Dr. Bud Belnap, teacher and athletic instructor here at Weber is. Dr. Belnap has been teaching for 30 years. He started coaching and teaching here at Weber when he was 23 years old and he has been here ever since. Belnap graduated with his master's degree in health from BYU, coaching the BYU freshman football team to finish up his degree. He originally was going to go into engineering, but decided that health and fitness would be more exciting. Belnap was then offered a position coaching at Provo High, but chose to come here to Weber after "Doc" Swensen offered him a coaching position here. He believes he was offered the position because he is versatile, able to teach and coach. Belnap was the offensive coordinator and back field coach from 1962-1972 He also helped Weber's athletic department by standing in as equipment coach, part-time athletic director and coaching the wrestling team for a few years. Although Belnap jx V. i V; f L J j - . , BUD BELNAP PUMPS Iron to stay In good shape and maintain his health. enjoyed coaching wrestling, he said that he definitely preferred football. Belnap has been interested in athletics since he was in the third grade. When he was young he can remember playing in the "Belnap Brothers" basketball team, where they would compete against other teams in the Ogden area. In high school, Belnap was involved in many different sports including baseball, basketball, track, and football. He was voted All Round Athlete at Weber High School, along with receiving both athletic and academic scholarships. Belnap stuck mainly to football in college, playing four years at BYU. He was team captain and was awarded the Academic, Ail-American trophy his junior and senior years. DANIELLE MABEYfH SIGNPOST Belnap is also involved in and helped form the Cardiac Fitness Institute at McKay Dee Hospital.
