Show Signpost Tuesday, May 20, 1986 3 Wear red to fight drug abuse The ASWSC student senate has officially declared this week as Red Ribbon Week. The declaration coincides with the Utah State legislature's "Red Ribbon Week," which encourages people to band together in proclaiming an end to illegal drug abuse. The week will be be highlighted on campus on Thursday. Academic vice-president Kelly Miles said the student senate en courages "all students and faculty to wear red ribbons or red clothes on Thursday." Also, students are encouraged to help decorate the campus with red ribbons during open hour. Students should meet in the student senate room, UB238 at 10 a.m. on Thursday.Anyone interested in helping promote "Red Ribbon Week" needs to contact the ASWSC offices by Wednesday at 4 p.m. Nobel Prize Series Demonstration takes place during open hour (Con't from front page) ing in our country and so he will push harder on his policies in that area." Trichia Osborn, senator for general studies, expressed her concern that the demonstration could turn into a riot, but was assured by Nwadibia that his people are a peaceful group and are not planning any trouble. The demonstration is planned to take place from 10 a.m. through the convocation Thursday. Anyone interested in participating is urged to attend a meeting at 10:30 a.m. today in the student council in the union building. In other business, the ASWSC student senate proposed two resolutions. It was proposed that May 18-25, 1986 be declared Red Ribbon Week to coincide with the Utah State Legislation, banding together in proclaiming an end to illegal drugs. All students and faculty are encouraged to wear a red ribbon or red clothing. The activity will be highlighted on Thursday with "Red Ribbon Day." Free red ribbons will be available in the UB lobby. It was also proposed that the week of June 2-6 be declared Women's Athletic Appreciation Week in honor of all who participate in those programs on the campus of Weber State College. Kissinger visits Weber V Dr. Henry A. Kissinger Dr. Henry A. Kissinger will be the speaker at Thursday's convocation during open hour. He will be the second in a series of . three Nobel Prize winners to speak at the college. He was named winner of the prize in 1973, the year that he was also sworn in as the 56th Secretary of State to President Gerald Ford. Kissinger also served as assistant to the president for national security affairs from 1969 to 1975. On July 19, 1983 President Ronald Reagan appointed him as chair of the National Bipartisan Commission on Central America. Reagan also appointed Kissinger to be a member of the President's Foreign Intelligence 'Advisory Board. He is a Director of the Foreign Policy Association, a counselor of the Chase Manhattan Bank and a member of its International Advisory Committee. Besides the Nobel Prize, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation's highest civilian award in 1977.
