Hurst is currently serving as Assistant to the President for the Centennial and Major Gifts at Weber State College. He is a member of the Ogden Rotary Club, Sons of the Utah Pioneers, Greater Ogden Chamber of Commerce, and the United Way of Northern Utah. Hurst is known for his many talents in forensics, drama and music and has appeared in numerous Weber State college and Community Theater productions with title roles in "The Music Man" and "Finnians Rainbow." He joined Weber State College as Executive Director of Alumni and Development Fund Board in 1967 and move to Assistant to the President in 1972. In spite of his rigorous schedule, he is able to free-lance as an artist-illustrator for numerous publications and is best know on Weber State's campus as the creator of "Waldo the Wildcat."
