Show Signpost-Friday, May 4, 1984 11 Volleyball Team Has Added New Recruits i ' 3 ... .in'- . i - - - ' Weber State volleyball coach Ted Compoc announced today the signing of two players to compete in volleyball for Weber State next season. Signing a letter of intent from the local area was Jennifer Beene, a 5-9 middle hitter from Northwest Community College in Wyoming via Clearfield High School. The daughter, of Jimmy and Olga Beene of Sunset, Jennifer helped lead her Northwest CC team to the National Junior College Championships last season and was named to the 1984 NJCAA Ail-American Team. In addition, she was All-Conference, All-Region, and the top vote-getter in the Region 9 Tournament, as well as an All-American JC pick in basketball. A superb hitter, with an above average vertical jump, Jennifer is expected to vie for a starting berth at the middle hitter position. She plans to major in business while at Weber State. Signing a letter of intent from out-of-state was 5-8 setterhitter Erna Yamauchi of Honolulu, Hawaii. Erna was a two-year starter for the prestigious two-time State Champion Kamehameha High Warriors. A year-round volleyball participant, Erna played for a high school program recognized nationally as one of the best recruiting meccas for major volleyball powers, and is expected to press for the starting setter position. Sporting a 3.5 high school GPA, Erna plans to major in business administration while at Weber State. Compac has been actively recruiting during the off season and feels Beene and Kamehameha can both give immediate help to the volleyball program. Compac lost some good players to graduation, and another won't return next year, so Compac will need a good recruiting year for the volleyball team to be competitive.
