Show 8 Signpost-Friday, May 4, 1984 Chris LeDoux To Sing At Rodeo Dance If music makes you want to get up and dance, then the May 5 Chris LeDoux concert at Weber State College is one you won't want to miss. Country-western singer LeDoux will perform at 8 p.m. in the Dee Events Center in a unique combination of dance and concert. "In order to get this kind of arrangement most of the time you have to go to bars, but many people who like to dance don't want to do that so we're doing it in the Dee Events Center," said Lynn Corbridge, advisor for the WSC Rodeo Club, which is sponsoring the event. Corbridge said that the $6 pre-sale ticket price and the $8 at-the-door charge will be used to help the college rodeo club travel to Montana for the National Rodeo finals that will be held in June. He said, "Last year the kids placed fifth in the nationals, and currently they are first in the Rocky Mountain region." Kyle Kosoff of WSC is the number one all-around cowboy in the region with Chris Paslett and Craig Kosoff of WSC having second and third standing in that same category. The rodeo team is composed of 13 men and four women, Corbridge said, and at the nationals will be competing against close to 300 athletes in such events as steer wrestling, bare back riding, calf roping, and saddle bronc riding. Corbridge said that during the concert people will be able to dance on the arena floor of the Dee Events Center. "If they want to dance, they can dance. If they want to just sit and enjoy the music, they can do that too," he said. LeDoux has a total of 16 albums and is most noted for songs such as "$30 Cowboy," "They Used to Want to Be Cowboys," and "Copenhaugen." He has toured much of the Western United States and throughout the rest of the country with his band Saddle Boggie, a group of Utah county musicians. LeDoux was also a professional rodeo cowboy for many years. He has been a professional since 1969 when he won the Intercollegiate Bare Back Riding championship. In 1976 he became the world champion bare back rider. Robby Wright, radio personality at KRGO radio in Ogen and a personal friend of LeDoux, was instrumental in arranging for the dance and concert at the Dee Events Center and said, "Chris has quite a following of the younger cowboys. I'm not sure if it's the music or Chris himself that they are drawn to, but it's definitely a winning combination."Wright said he expects the event to be one of the biggest such happenings in the Ogden area. The local country-western group of Little Rock will play before LeDoux. Wright said that Little Rock is an energetic and talented group. "It should be a very exciting evening," Wright said. Tickets are available in Ogden at the Dee Events Center Ticket Office, Cross Western, Boots, Brims and Britches, Toad Tape, and Video America, and in Salt Lake City at Emigration Outfitters. Music Dept. To Conduct Workshop The seminar will not include shouting, baton breaking, nor outbursts of frustration, but the May 11 conductor's workshop at Weber State College promises to be interesting just the same. John P. Paynter, noted conductor, composer and arranger who directs bands at Northwestern University, will be in room 256 of the Browning Center from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. in a free workshop sponsored by the WSC music department.Paynter has been the director of bands at Northwestern University since 1953 and has established the marching band, symphonic wind ensemble, concert band and symphonic band as among the finest of their kind. An active composer and arranger, Paynter has some 400 works to his credit. The workshop is open to the public and will be followed by an 8 p.m. performance by the WSC Symphonic Band with Paynter as guest conductor. The concert is free and will be in the Allred Theater. According to workshop organizers, the two hours of instruction will be directed to community members, band leaders and students interested in conducting. Paynter is expected to treat such subjects as rehearsal techniques and score study. Let Us Help Plan The Perfect Party!
