Friday Sun Run Road Rally Sun Stomp ' 1LM ss- v W WSC Tangent Factor Entertains With Style From Another Era by Dona Skaff Entertainment Editor The Weber State College Tangent Factor will present a concert Friday, May 4, in the Austad Auditorium of the Browning Center. The Tangent Factor is a group of 16 musicians who specialize in the music of the Big Band Era. "The purpose of the group," said director Ron Elliston, "is to perpetuate America's musical contribution to the world -- 'Butterfly Man' Comedian-juggler Robert Nelson will be appearing on the Weber State College campus, April 30, at 12 p.m. in the Union Building and 8 p.m. in the Promontory Tower Cafeteria. Nelson has traveled across the nation, from Nashville to New Orleans to San Francisco, under the guise of the colorful character he created known as the "Butterfly Man." A former scientist turned mad jester, Nelson now plays clubs, open-air shows, trade shows, private parties and is a popular performer on the streets of San Francisco. noon 7:00 p.m. 9:00 p.m. Jazz. The band is comprised of drums, saxes, trumpets, trombones, guitars and a piano. The music being performed has been played by such artists as Ray Henderson, Count Basie, Glen Miller and Woody Herman, and including such songs as "Tuxedo Junction," "Sophisticated Lady," To Make WSC Saturday Barrel of Fun Carnival . . .10:00-9:30 Solar Rock noon Fireworks 9:30 p.m. "Sweet Georgia Brown," "Darn That Dream," and "Satin Doll." Last year the Tangent Factor played at the President's Ball which was held after the Crystal Crest Awards. This year they will again perform after the same awards ceremony to be held June 2 in the ballroom. There is no admission charge to the May 4 concert and all are encouraged to attend this evening of music from the Swing Era. Appearance Nelson has also appeared with such notables as Richie Havens, Tiny Tim and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band. Television audiences will recognize him from his appearances on such programs as the "Howard K. SmithHarry Reasoner Report," "Real People," "PM Magazine" and the "Cystal Gayle Special." The performance is sponsored by the College Activities Board and the Residence Hall Association. There is no cost for the show. I |
