Show Stiff Challenge by Dan Dickson Sports Editor Senior Mats Jonmarker will head the Wildcat golf team as they travel to ' Chicago to play in the Butler National Invitational. The tournament began Thursday and will end Saturday as the Wildcat golfers go up against some very strong competition. The tournament will consist of 18 holes of golf each day. Jonmarker is from Sweden and is the lone senior on the Weber golf team. Jonmarker is a seasoned veteran whom golf coach Mac Madsen is counting on to anchor the team. Sophomore Paul Mueller, will be Weber's number two player and is the only other Weber golfer who has tournament experience.Freshmen Jimmy Almand and Miguel Tola, along with sophomore Glen Spencer will be the other Wildcat golfers making the trip. Coach Madsen, not happy with the play of his team in Logan last week, held a play-off Monday and Tuesday to determine the final three spots on the roster. "Nothing was decided in Logan," Madsen said. "Our players are to close, the only way I could pick the final three golfers was to play them off." Almand, Spencer and Tola shot the I t Mats Jonmarker is off the tee at the 1 ' .V. Former state amatuer champion Spencer said, "I don't care for play-offs. They can be brutal. These two days were tougher on me than playing in the State Am. I feel confident about my game and fortunately, I hit the ball well." For Spencer, who was on the Wildcat golf team last year but did not play much, this is his opportunity to establish himself at Weber State. Almand said, "Qualifying meant a lot to me. Butler is a great golf course. There is nothing like the pressure we went through." Coach Madsen is taking a young, inexperienced team to play one of the hardest courses in America. Butler is the home of the Western Open, one of the PGA tour stops. The scoring average of the Western Open is higher than any other PGA tournament. Madsen, however, isn't worred about the age of his team. "After the pressure of qualifying, our kids should be more relaxed for this tournament. The youth on the team doesn't concern me that much. There will be a tough field with some highly ranked teams competing. I don't expect us to win, but, I do think we can play well enough to finish in the top ten," said Madsen.
