Show Pianist returns to Utah Tuesday, October 5, 1982 Page 11 World-renowned pianist, Grant Johannesen and the Utah Symphony joined forces Thursday evening, September 30, for the Symphony's opening of the 1982-83 concert season in Ogden. The concert featured Utah music played by Utah musicians. The concert repertoire succeeded in being both harmonious and diversified. Calm, dreamlike numbers complimented enthusiastic, lively music. The conductor's choice of music reflected a contemporary taste. The over-all effect succeeded in projecting a coherent medley of sounds and musical images.Grant Johannesen performed on a par with his past critical acclaim in Saint-Saens' "Piano Concerto No. 4". Johannesen is a native Utahn who has returned regularly to perform with the Utah Sym- Netherlands opens season Weber's star-studded season opens Thursday evening at the Ogden Hilton Ballroom with the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra. The orchestra has received critical acclaim from such eminent people as Isaac Stern, who called it a "premier musical organization," and Leonard Bernstein who praised both the orchestra and conductor. The performance will feature a handmade Louis XVI model harpsicord, donated to Weber State College by Mary Leota Craner. General admission for the concert is $5. The concert will begin at 8 p.m. on October 7. phony. Johannesen succeeds in achieving maximum results through seemingly minimum effort. His stage presence testifies to his diversified experience. Both Johannesen and the symphony master the art of music which is technically precise in tempo, dynamics, and style, while still being warm and emotionally moving. The Utah Symphony will perform again in Ogden on November 4 and will feature music by Handel, Bruch, and Brahms.
