MOVIES: Nighthawks "Nighthawks" Sylvester Stallone Billy Dee Williams By Rick Jones This movie might easily be labled the 'French Connection' of terrorist flicks, but it couldn't possibly live up to that classification. The movie's basic problem is that it relies on the out-dated and contrived formula of: violence, a villian we love to hate, a chase scene, tough heroes, a suspenseful build-up, violence and more violence. With "Nighthawks"nothing new is added to the genre of these sort of movies. Not even Sylvester Stallone's exceptional performance as 'Silver' rescues this movie from the suspenseful doldrums. Although "Nighthawks" has its finer points, includinga great shock ending, due to it's weak script some of the situations in the movie fall short and seem awkward. We never do find out why Wolfgar, the vilfen commits all these grandstand acts of violence,. Even the soundtrack composed by Keith Emerson is a big disappointment; a boring, plodding, disco-ish exercise in absolute waste. Emerson's recent work is so unsuspensful that it's pathetic. The soundtrack might as well have been done by Henry Mancini with a synthesizer in his pocket. It's unfortunate that the only real function of these kind of movies is to inspire more violence from 'Wolfgar' prototypes with identity problems. "Nighthawks" is currently playing at the Wilshire Theatre. Tuesday all seats $1. The Stars By Debbie Knight Daily Horoscope Aries (Mar 21 - Apr 19) Love is moving your way. Run.
