"The reason why we're getting more students is because we have a neat program," said Beaver. "What makes this program unique," she said, "is its versatility. A student can sign up for a one, two or four year program, depending on their individual circumstances. "Many students start a two year program and then find out they are unable to complete it because of a lack of funds, marriage or any number of reasons. So instead of leaving college with nothing they graduate as practical nurses," she added. The nursing program at WSC also runs satellite programs at four other Utah schools and in two Utah towns. "The idea," she said, "is to take the program to them instead of them coming to us." Although this program is working well rmmher nf J L J!H11 nurses nationally is decreasing. A publication from the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCVU) reports a 1.9 percent decline in the number of 1980 nursing graduates, almost double the 1 percent drop of the year before. Beaver explained that money seems to be part of the problem. "In many cases a nursing graduate ' finds the economic benefits are low," she said. The AASCU also reports the Reagan administration has proposed eliminating financial aid for nursing education as part if its proposed budget cuts. Experts fear the problem is growing and officials express concern about the decline especially when all evidence points toward a continuing escalation in the demand for nursing services.Aspiring to parking lot heaven, The Mechanics of Vision, Buy a chili dog in Seven - Eleven The Mechanics of Vision Defy and define the barrier And boundries of road food soul, Their intangible goal. -Mel of SMR9 Ballet West Performs By Shonda St. James Ballet West performed before a full house last week in the Browning center. They opened with Concerto Barocco, a -iece performed to Bach and consisting of pure, clean movements. While hinting at being abstract, it studied the beauty of movements. It was followed by Harlequinade, a rather trite ballet which was light-hearted' and full of character, projecting the humor of courtship games. The stage was set for the next ballet, Canciones Amatorias, with a soprano accompaniment by Enrique Granadoes. This ballet portrayed love and relationships by three couples dancing with lyrical quality and excellent execution of movement. The ballet was highlighted with the performance of "Billy the Kid." The unique choreography emerged in front of a brjght sunset silhouetted ;-,by cactus. Cowboys rod? 'rhorsffeack, played poker ai she-i it put until Billy' the dWas tually shot himself. Composed of not only singles and classics but live versions and unreleas-ed studio out- takes as well, this makes for an excellent market strategy. The albums earliest recordings come from "Its Only Rock n' Roll," the last album that guitarist Mick Taylor played on. Compared to the current material with Ron Wood, the album presents an interesting contrast. Taylor, who replaced the late, great Brian Jones in 1969, was an 'academic bluesman' from John Mayalls Blues Breakers before joining the Stones, and was in his words, "The only person to leave the Rolling Stones and live." His guitar playing was always inovative and somewhat jazzy. On the other hand, Ronnie Wood (formerly with Rod Stewart and the Faces), the Keith Richard prototype who might not be the great musician Taylor is, makes up for it with his unique style and enthusiasm. The recent material with is very much like the early Stones, High energy R nd B. The album is as all Stones albums before it, another 'Moonlight Mile' down the 'road, more hot rocks and phased cookies, another step by this incredibly strong band that has endured the sixties, Beatlemania, psychedalia, the glitter era, punk rock, and the SEVENTIES. The live version of "When the Whip Comes Down" drives with an urgent, brutal force not heard from the Stones in some time. "Mannish Boy," also live and a blues classic, comes from the "Love You Live" album and sr ffef -tm w --ftr 3k was recorded in Canada when the Stones had their notorious stay there in 1975. Tracks from "Black and Blue" and "Some Girls" are included on the album as well and make "Sucking in the Seventies" a well rounded, vital picture of the World's Greatest Rock n' Roll Band in the seventies. Jagger and Company are still on top. Free Stars for Stripes On Armed Forces Day, May 16, the Hansen Planetarium will pay tribute to members of the United States armed forces.
