Show Signpost May 5, 1981 MARLENE MAGUIEE UNCREA: D HE ELF C ONFSDENCE BACKGROUND: Age 22. Born and raised in Okinawa; attended Japanese schools until 1973 when she moved to Salina, Kansas. Attended Salina High School and lettered in Basketball, Volleyball and Track. Will graduate this June from WSC with a B.A. in Spanish and minors in Asian Studies and Military Science. Also will graduate from Odgen LDS Institute of Religion. Bi-lingual in English and Japanese, fluent in Spanish, studying Russian while participating in the Utah Army National Guard with the 142nd Military Intelligence Linguistics Detachment. Entered 2-year ROTC program through constructive credits. Obtained U.S. citizenship in May 1980 and will be commissioned in June 1981 as a Second Lieutenant Signal Corps, U.S. Army. Further officer trainer will then start in Augusta, Georgia. INTERESTS: Athletics, particularly basketball and raquetball; teaching ballet at Hill Air Force Base. Collects match covers and candy bar wrappers from foreign countries. . FUTURE PLANS: "Serve on active duty as an officer for 3 years and turn that experience, my education and my language skills into a career in a foreign area where I can use them all. Marriage is also intended sometime. ROTC offers college women a springboard to some fascinating career opportunities that I think many on this campus never even check on. Class work and practical training through Military Service has really increased my leadership ability and my confidence in what I can do and get others to do.
