Peterson veterans coordinator for Weber State College. " After debate in the House and Senate veterans affairs commitees both agree on a ten percent increase in educational benifits and a 15 percent increase for disabled veterans compensation," said Peterson. " The hang up seems to be whether the increase will be retroactive to October 1, 1980 or begin Jan 1." He added that holding off on the benifit increase would save approximately $10 million. All interested vets should write their Congressman in support of the Oct. retroactive payment. The bill will probably not be passed until Nov. or Dec. "It should be noted said Peterson that all of Utah's delegtion in the House and senate voted for the increase and that for the first time ever the Carter Administation recommended less money to be allocated for the Veterans budget than Congress proposed." The Office of Veteran's Affairs-Weber State College so special? of the handset. phone conversation. wants to welcome you back for Fall quarter and let you know that they are here to assist you in any way possible. Problems with benifits under the GI bill usually result from a lack of communication between the Veteran and the VA office. Many times these problems result in the veteran having an overpayment which must be paid back to the VA. These problems can usually be resolved or may be much less severe if they are caught in the early stages. Being informed and keeping the Veterans Affairs office informed of any changes in your status is your best insurance against trouble. Changes in hours; repeat of classes; grades of "W",'T","NC"; change in schedule; or unreported off-campus classes may cause problems with your benifits. No vet should attempt to undertake an educational goal without at least one half hour of counciling on VA regulations. We can only help you if we hear from you!
