Show Page 6 Signpost May 10, 1977 EDITORIALS WARNING: It is now week eight of the quarter. There are only two Mondays left. All student procrastinators desirous of satisfactorily completing their designated coursework should be so advised. All term papers, term projects and various other sundry assignments should be completed within the next three weeks. Now is the moment. But Now may be a little difficult to comprehend. With all of the greenery sprouting and livening up the valley and mountains, Now appears to be the time to enjoy it, not after finals. After all, wasn't it the "Now-ness" of our recent rains that made them so enjoyable and appreciated? And who wants to enjoy a scorched brown world after finals? Besides, who can claim spring fever after finals? And all the people that have been friends and fellow-companions will soon be leaving on their separate ways. Our friendships need to be enjoyed. Now is the moment. Whatever your philosphy, however you view it, Spring quarter at WSC is on the downhill slide. 3 a DmCiOey'! present England Dan & John Ford Coley I l- it Wildcat Litter box by Chris Hicks A new movie in town about hockey and starring Paul Newmali is said to be the ultimate in soundtrack profanity. Film critics have called "Slap Shot" the film which uses more swear words than any commercial movie to date. I' suspect those reviewers meant to indicate that the film contains redundancies of the same words. There are only so many forms of swearing, aren't there? I doubt if there are any words in "Slap Shot" we haven't already heard in such films as "Network," "A Star Is Born," ad infinitum profanidum. In fact, they're probably not any different than words heard in the locker rooms at area high schools, the press room at the Municipal Building or the offices of local officials when this column crosses their desks. What is a breakthrough, however, is the warning that "certain language may be too strong for children" along with the R rating. If your ears burn during "Slap Shot," you have no one to blame but yourself you've been warned. I might add that an Academy Award was prepared in March for those annual presentations for the category of "Best Script Without Naughty Words," but there were no entries. I suppose it's not really fair to give all this publicity to "Slap Shot" without mentioning other films currently playing in the Ogden area, so here are a few of the movies now playing at local theaters. "Rocky" the story of a college president and his status with the community and the Board of Regents. "A Star Is Born" a movie about the making of a county commission chairman and how he feels about himself. "It's Alive a film about paramedic service which survives despite political efforts to kill it. "The White Buffalo" the tale of a downtown hotel donated to a county and its arguable merits. "Islands in the Stream" the story of college students who can't find housing and eventually take up squaters' rights in the college's retention basin.
