Show Nov. 9, 1976 Signpost Page 11 WSC beats Utah and Utah State 6 Cat cross country team takes second at Logan The Weber State Cross Country Team, despite some back luck-including the absence of its top runner, still managed to edge out the University of Utah and take second place at the Utah State Invitational cross country meet held last Saturday in Logan. The 'Cat runners competing without their slightly injured number one runner Jorge Ruiz, totaled 59 points to nip the Utes by a 59-60 score, (the low score wins in cross country). Brigham Young's powerful team won the team title with 20 points, while host Utah state finished a distant fourth place with 103 team points. Former BYU runner Paul Cummings, running unattached won the race, but in the official college results, Benton Hart led a. five man BYU sweep to win the race. Weber's top finisher was Steve Scharmann in 7th place. Other top WSC finishers were: Lynn Strong 8th; Ron Davis 14th; Dave Read 23rd; Scott Steele 24th and Bill Tervort 26. Tervort's showing was quite extraordinary since he was severely spiked early in the race by another runner, but kept on going. He required stitches following the race. Weber's next meet is this Saturday at 11 a.m. in Boise, Idaho at the crucial Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championships.
