Where do I go for help? I just bought a new foreign car and come to find out the engine was an option I didn't order. Where do I go for consumer advice? I handed the woman at the cashier's window my packet, so I could pay my P.E. fees, and she charged me an extra $5 inconvenience fee because she had to take the cards out of the packet. Is there anyone on campus who can help? The answer to all these questions is the OMBUDSMAN, but who, what, and where are the OMBUDSMAN? The OMBUDSMAN committee is a group of students dedicated to the task of helping the college student solve any and all problems that may, in any way, impede his academic life. The OMBUDSMAN office has been reorganized into four departments in order to meet the needs of the students, no matter where they are. The first time in Weber State College history, legal services are available to all students on a very economical basis. If a student has a problem that only advice from a private attorney can help solve, he can bring his problem to the OMBUDSMAN office and Randy Skanchy, the student defender and director of legal services, will review the case and make an appointment with a private attorney. The cost to the student would be $5, with Student Government providing the balance. Also new this year, is the establishment of a Student Consumer Affairs Bureau, directed by Sherri Elwell. The Consumer Affairs Bureau will provide free consumer information booklets and will act as a Better Business Bureau for the students at Weber State. Any consumer related problem ranging from what type of hair dryer to buy, to misleading advertisements. The student now has a recourse in all his consumer related problems. Areas such as parking, academic development and student government will be handled by the director of campus affairs. These organizational changes now enable the OMBUDSMAN office to effectively meet the needs of all Weber State students. The only thing missing is you, the student. Please make use of these services and let us be of assistance to you. 24 hour answering service ext. 186 ext. 525 Roam 215 |
