Sark . ,.i Vtx , f- r - brought Weber State to National prominence, led the team to its best record in modern history and claimed a share of the Big : '.J 4 Sky Championship in 1965. Prior to coming to Weber State, Sark coached at Dixie Junior College where he estab. lished a record that is hard to beat. His teams won 64 games while losing only 26 and tying three in his nine years there. He coached the Junior Col. lege All-America West squad in 1960 and served on the staff at Utah State for one year. Chief assistant to Coach Ar. slanian is Tom Ramage. Ramage, the defenisve coordinator, was an all. conference tackle at Utah State, played pro ball with the Pittsburgh Steelers and serv-ed as line coach at Utah State University. Bud Belnap serves as head of the offensive backs. He is a former quarterback at Brigham Young University and heads the physical fitness and training as-pect of the squad. Coach Doug Hunt is the de. fensive backfield coach and, like the rest of the staff, de. voted to his duties. He played and coached for Sark at Dixie Junior College. Before coaching at Dixie, Hunt coached high school ball at Dayton, Idaho and Emery, Utah. Handling the offensive line is coach Ralph Hunter. Coach Hunt, er was a former head football and wrestling coach at Bonne, ville High School in Idaho Falls, Idaho. He is now also teaching Physical Education and serves as head wrestling coach at We. ber State along with his foot, ball duties. Lynn Corbridge works with the defensive linebackers this year. He was a star end for the Wild, cats in 1963 where he received All-Conference honors. Coach Corbridge doubles as freshman football and varsity swimming coach for the Cats. Put them all together as a staff and they consistently put out a team that is battling for number one honors in the Big Sky Conference and a top.ten rating among the colleges. This year is no exception. Cais host hll rodeo Weber State College will host rodeo competition with 13 colleges and universities from the Intermountain Region at the Golden Spike Coliseum October 10 and 11. This is one of the rodeos that each of the colleges host prior to the regional finals in May, 1970. This collegiate rodeo will be the featured attraction of the Golden Spike National Livestock Show and will have threeper-formances.-one on October 10 at 7:30 p.m. and two on October 11 at 1 and 7:30 p.m. The Rocky Mountain Rodeo As. sociation Championship Finals will be Nov 6-8 and will also be hosted by Weber State. Events in the rodeo will include saddle and bareback brbnc riding, bull riding, steer wrest-ling, calf roping and ribbon roping for the men. The women's events will in-elude barrel racing, goat tying and breakaway calf roping. Colleges that will be partici-pating will be the College of Southern Idaho at Twin Falls, Ricks College, Idaho State Uni-versity, Boise State, College of Eastern Utah, Carbon College, College of Southern Utah, Dixie College, Snow College, West, minster College, Brigham Young University, Utah State Uni-versity, University of Utah and Weber State. . ( ifcwdmi W&iKi M Kenny Knight Knight fills trainer job for WSC A first full-time athletic trainer for Weber State College was appointed earlier this summer according to Dale L. Gardner, Director of Athletics. Kenny Knight, a Weber State graduate last spring, has taken the position which was pre. viously manned by physical education athletic staff personnel. Knight will be responsible for the important training du. ties related to the ten inter, collegiate sports at Catland. He served as a student assistant trainer while completing his sen. ior year last year. The new trainer previously served under Coach Arslanian as student trainer at Dixie Junior College in 1963 and 1964 and came to Weber last year after an LDS mission and graduation from Dixie in 1967. Knight attended Grand County High School in Moab and also received athletic training experience there. While in high school he received a certificate of graduation from the Cramer Student training Course. Knight majored in phsycial education and minored in psychology while at Weber State. He was a member of Blue Key, national honor fraternity, and was active in student activities. Golf mentor on committee Catland's golf coach, Mac Mad. sen, has been named to the District Seven NCAA Golf Screen, ing committee. The committee selects from all eligible district teams and in-dividuals those who will compete in the annual NCAA golf champ, ionships each spring. Coach Madsen's new appointment to the committee will now give the Big Sky Conference rep. resentation and will promote the cause of the Big Sky teams and individuals for post-season competition.Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Col-orado, Arizona and New Mexi-co are the states covered in District Seven competition. Coach Madsen will join com-mittee chairman Karl Tucker of BYU, Bill Mann of Arizona State and Captain Ric Garver of the Air Force Academy on the screening committee. |
