" y i A -4 A Throngs of students eager to get back at the books go through the registration lines in hopes that the classes they need aren't already closed. This year saw more classes than ever being offered and more students than ever before in the history of Weber State signing up for them. Day school registration ran two days with upperclasssmen registering on Thursday and freshmen on Friday. Over 1800 freshmen, the biggest frosh class ever registered for fall quarter classes. Biggest sign-up ever marked in Mi registration at VJeher State Registration, probably the most hectic time of the school year for both students and ad. ministration, was completed last week for both lower and upper classmen. An estimated 8,600 students registered last Thursday and Friday, an increase of about 5.9 per cent over last year'senrollment. Students began registering at 7 a.m. last Thursday; an hour earlier than the previous starting time of 8 a.m. to accommodate the larger number of stud, ents. All students except freshmen registered on the first day of registration, with approxi. mately 1,900 freshmen registering for classes Friday. Students will be able to use the newly-constructed science building and laboratory building for the first time this year. Also, the $2 million addition to . the student union building will completely open to student use when school officially begins today. Late registration will begin today. A fee of $5.00 will be charg. ed to those students who register late. Students, committee meet to decide policy on food The Union Building food services committee held its first meeting of the fall quarter last week. The newly-organized committee was designed to allow communication between students and the heads of the food service company. The members of the com. mittee are Farell Shepherd, union building director; Norm Frost, financial vice president of the student body; Marilyn Lar-sen, editor of the SIGNPOST: Joyce Parrish; and representatives from the food service com-pany, including Joe Mallory, head of the company, and a faculty member. This committee will meet regularly to decide policies relat. ing to service, prices, and menues at the sky room, cafe-teria, and snack bar. It was announced at the meet, ing that new hours for the three eating areas will be: Skyroom, daily Monday through Friday 11:30 1:15 p.m.; snackbar, daily Monday through Friday 7 a.m. 9 p.m.; vending service, open daily; and cafeteria and cafeteria dining, daily Monday through Friday 11:30 a.m. 1:30 p.m. Students having complaints concerning any phase of the food their suggestions known to this service on campus should make committee. APPAREL Weber State College has re. ceived notification that former Vice President Hubert H. Hum. phrey was forced, due to other obligations, to cancel his speaking engagements here scheduled for Oct. 16 and 17.. It had been announced that Mr. Humphrey would be the guest of Weber State where he would deliver a public address on Oct. 16 and would remain Oct. 17 to speak to individual political science classes as well as to other groups. Daniel L. Martino, chairman of the Fine Arts cultural programs at Weber State was notified by Mr. Humphrey's of. fice that he was obliged to cancel all of his October appoint, ments in this country because he has accepted an assignment by the U.S. State Department to fulfill a foreign mission during October. No details of the State De-partment assignment were im. mediately available. Although Mr. Humphrey will not be able to appear at the scheduled time, he has assured school officials that he will arrange for another date to speak at Weber State during the school year. Several other distinguished lecturers are scheduled to speak at Weber this year includ. ing: Lord Harlech, British Am. bassador to the United States and new Deputy Leader of the Opposition in the House of Lords; Dr. Grattan Freyer, distinguish, ed Danforth Foundation scholar; Sam Levenson acclaimed as one of America's favorite humorists and lecturers; and Vincent Price, star of stage, screen, andtelevision. They are now permanently located on the lower level of the old union building down the hall across from the barber shop. The Signpost, the student newspaper, is located in room 267.
