During World War II, Mr. Van-denberg taught students how to paint insignias and do layout design for military aircraft. He has been instructor in auto body since the college moved to upper campus in 1954. E. Smith Murphy was an associate professor of chemistry and physical science at the time of his death. He had been on the college faculty since 1942. His educational career began in Weber County in 1922. He taught in the county elementary schools and later at Weber High School before joining the Weber State staff. Glenn L. Hanson, an associate professor of music, had taught for 21 years at Ogden High School before joining Weber's faculty. At Ogden High he founded the a'cap- pella choir that gained national recognition.At Weber State, Prof. Hanson developed a choral group known now as the Weber State Singers, and had directed many operas, musical comedies, and other musical programs for both college and community.Prof. Lorenzo E. Peterson, who had officiated as chairman of the Technical Education Division, was the primary architect of WSC's technical and vocational training programs, which won national recognition.Prof. Peterson was one of the leading workers in gaining four-year status for Weber. Mrs. Loy Fielding Doss had been an assistant professor of nursing at the college for the past 12 years. Prior to joining the Weber nursing staff, she had been a public health nurse for the state in Utah County. She was also a field instructor for the American Red Cross. He has been active in drama, among them "The Rainmaker," and is a strong debater. John was sports editor of the Signpost for five quarters and is a past President and Vice President of Phoenix Club. In 19G0 he was chosen most outstanding male student at Utah State University. A senior, John has already been accepted by the Graduate School of Social Work at the University of Utah. John will certainly be missed around the campus.
