Show May 15, 1964 SIGNPOST Page 3 KEE PING (sign) POST SELECTIVE SERVICE Colonel Evan P. Clay, Utah State director of Selective Service, reminds all young men that under the Universal Military Service and Training Act, they must register with Selective Service within five days after reaching their 18th birthday and that they must have in their personal possession at all times a valid, unaltered registration cer- tificate issued by one of the Selective Service local boards. Membership in any of the reserve components of the armed forces, including the National Guard, does not excuse a man from registering when he reaches age 18. Late registration, or no registration at all, is a criminal violation and can lead to immediate induction, heavy fines, or possible imprisonment.A young man can fulfill his military obligation other than waiting to be inducted by Selective Service. Help and guidance along these lines is available at any Selective Service office. ATTENTION!!! The time is finally here! Yearbooks will be on sale for $6 at the UB main desk on Wednesday, May 20 at 1 p.m. Students who have purchased their yearbooks may pick them up at that time by showing their receipt of purchase to one of the members of the yearbook staff. Because the supply is limited, students wishing to purchase yearbooks should not delay doing so. WITNESSES Would all those who witnessed a 1956 Olds, back into a red Kar-man Ghia, in front of Bldg. 4, April 24, 3:10 p.m., please contact Arthur Reynolds, Ph. 782-7737. B.ROADMINDEDNESS TO BE OR HOT TO BE By Steve Larsen There was a time when to be broad-minded meant, coming to an issue on which you were ignorant; unbiased, and objective. After you had reviewed the facts from all sides, you made a judgment, formed an opinion, and went actively about supporting it. Well, times have changed. The term "broad-minded" has taken on a new conotation with a dual meaning. First, the former uncommitted, unbiased attitude was extended through the period in which you were ignorant of the facts of an issue, into the period after which you take the trouble to inform yourself, you are not broadminded if you make a decision on your findings. This idea derives its justification, in the minds of some, from the Bible quotation "Judge not that ye be not judged." Obviously, taken in context, this meant judge not others (people good or bad), rather than judge not truth, for this would rob man of the use of his only exalting grace reason. Second, the word tolerance was construed to mean tolerance of untruth itself rather than alone, its vessel or proponant. How ridiculous can we get? Can a cook be tolerant of the use of plaster of paris in place of flour? How then can we be tolerant of untruth in order to be broad-minded? A young girl was raped and another stabbed, while thirty-eight to forty uncommitted, broadmind-orl Ampvicans in New York looked on in apathy. Would to God there ! had been one narrow-minded, ia-natical, extremist there to save them from their assailants. Are you broad-minded? Oh Nudists Left In Cold By College MOUNT CARROLL, ILL. (CPS) The president of Shinier College, who wants to rent out the campus for the summer, said last Friday that he plans to reject the offer of a nudist group. "OUR CAMPUS fronts right on two busy highways and I just don't think it would be appropriate," said Dr. F. J. Mullin. He added that there is no protective shrubbery."We don't like to discriminate against anybody, but I think a nudist group would just be out of place on our campus," he said. "Besides, we're right in town." Roger Clogher, executive secretary of the Perfect Christian Divine Way Inc., Holy City, Calif., said that the group wanted to rent the campus for seven weeks. He said that nudists from all over the nation would attend the gathering and it would be "somewhat nudesworthy." Clogher said he read of Mullin's offer, which was given nationwide publicity, in a San Francisco newspaper.Mullin said he has received inquiries from five educational type groups and will pick a tenant in the next week or two.
