It's purpose is to honor those outstanding students and faculty who have excelled in various areas while attending Weber State College. Categories for honor Talent of the year: 1. To that student who has displayed an outstanding ability in the field of art, dance, drama or music this past year that distinguishes him or her as the Talent of the Year. 2. Students for this honor are to be nominated by the Humanities Division. Accomplishment of the year: 1. To that student who has exemplified through his or her per-serverance that trait of leadership necessary to accomplish an assigned task, or to initiate a new method" that furthers the growth of the college, or to that individual who has overcome great obstacles in succeeding at the college, that marks that individaul student as Accomplishment of the Year. 2. Students for this honor are to be nominated by a member of the faculty or by his or her fellow students. The Awards and Honors Committee will select tiie five finalists. Faculty of the year: ..1. To that faculty member at Weber State College who exemplifies a real dedication to the teaching profession, who, through personal interest, inspires students to greater heights, who makes the subject matter become alive, while making his or her classes challnging, and who, through his to the teaching profession as well as to Weber State. , 2. Faculty mmbers for this honor are to be nominated by the students of Weber State. The Executive Council of the Associated Students will select the five finalists.Female scholar of the year: 1. To that female student, who through the course of her higher education has maintained a signal grade point average as determined against the academic core subjects taken, and who through her classroom performance has been an inspiration to her fellow classmates as well as a responsible campus citizen. 2. Students for this honor are to be nominated by the faculty. The wards and Honors Commit-will select the five finalists. Male scholar of the year: 1. To that male student, who, through the course of his higher education has maintained a signal grade point average as determined against the academic core subjects taken, and who through his classroom performance has been an inspiration to his fellow classmates as well as a responsible campus citizen. 2. Students for this honor are to be nominated by the faculty. The Awards and Honors Committe will select the five finalists. Athlete of the year: 1. To that student who has contributed the most to Weber State's Inter-Collegiate athletics through the field of friendly competition, his show of fine sportsmanship, and his worth as an outstanding campus citizen, both in and out of the classroom. 2. Students for this honor are to be nominated by the Athletic Division.Female students of the year: 1. To that female student who by her display of outstanding personal traits and dedication to the operation and growth of all school functions, has made such a signal contribution that marks her as the female student of the year. 2. Students for this honor are to be nominated by a member of the faculty or her fellow students. The Awards and Honors Committee will select the five finalists. Male student of the year: 1. To that male student who, by his display of outstanding personal traits and dedication to the operation and growth of all school functions, has made such a signal contribution that marks him as the male student of the year. 2. Students for this honor are to be nominated by a member of the faculty of his fellow students. The Awards and Honors Commit te will select the five finalists. Special awards: A committee headed by Dr. Merle Allen may establish special awards in any areas not covered by the above categories. There are two areas that special awards may be given. 1. To an individual who has contributed to the growth and development of Weber State, to Metropolitan Ogden, and to mankind in general, that the Committee deems a special award is war-rented.2. To a student that is not covered by one of the categories and that the committee deems a spcial award is warranted. Explanation of program: 1 Students, faculty or special awards will be nominated as explained above. This will be done on a special nomination form. 2. After nomination, all categories for honor will be narrowed to five finalists, except for Talent of the Year and Athlete of the year where the Humanities and Athletic Divisions will nominate the five finalists, in the other categories the finalists will be selected as mentioned above. In all categories for honor, except for Special Awards, the finalists will be made public. 3. Upon selection of the finalists, a biography of each finalists will be presented to each member of the voting committee. Each committee member will examine each of the five finalists in each cateogry and will vote for, what she or he feels is the outstanding individual. This will be done in the eight above mentioned categories.Entrance forms can be obtained from Ross Robson and the stu-dentbody officers.
