Weber State's thinclads trave to Logan today for a double-dun match with Utah State and Mon Dennis Anderson, who recently was voted as Weber State's outstanding athlete for 1 964, winds up for a pitch at John Affleck ball park. 1 J r- 'I t ,9 -! V ' "4- i. emmis JSiiMlerson Wins':Jkthlete Award- by Rick Hassett Dennis Anderson: Weber State College's outstanding athlete of 1964. This award, the recipient of which is decided by the athletic staff, was presented to Anderson last Tuesday night at the Booster Club banquet. "A n d y," a star football and baseball player, was on hand to iieQMitm&t "Most butchers would rather wait on newlyweds they don't remember what nrices used to be" accept the OgdenStandard-Examiner gold watch as the college's top athlete. This is, by the way, the second gold watch for Anderson. He won the same award while at Weber High. The tall, handsome, and well-built Anderson, who looks like the typical Ail-American boy, plays end on the Wildcat grid team. He has one year of eligibility left im football, and hopes to play on Coach Arslanian's -promising squad next fall. Dennis is also a standout pitcher an the WSC baseball team. A strong righthander, he recently hurled a four hitter against Idaho State which the Wildcats won by 3-2. Anderson was an the mound for Weber in its latest contest with Gonzaga University, but his thoughts were elsewhere. The reason? His . wife had presented him with a baby girl weighing seven pounds, seven ounces one hour before the game. And, yes, the Wildcats lost a close one. During his sports career, Anderson has received many awards. He was a unanimous selection on the all-conference football team last season, and a year ago was voted to the all-Big Sky baseball crew. In addition, he garnered a plaque as the best pitcher on Weber's diamond team. Several other athletes were honored at the banquet. Bob Belka, who has upheld a 3.46 grade point average throughout colllege and 4.0 this year, was given a radio by Booster Club President Lynn Foley as the top scholar among the 83 lettermen present. At the Utah State Universit Invitational last Saturday aftei noon, Weber finished a poor thiro Scores at the meet read as fo lows: Utah 81, Utah State 6! and Weber State 14. Ace King of Weber tied fo first in the high jump with leap of six feet, two inches. Steve Blood, another top Will cat ace, set a new school recor in the triple jump with a figui of 47 feet, 2 inches. Royal West established a ne Weber State record also, runnin the intermediate hurdles in a tim of 39.3 sconds.
