Willden, from South High School in Salt Lake City was refused a spot on the ball team as a freshman because Coach Dick Williams didn't think he had the stuff to make it as a pitcher for him. Now, Coach Williams is the first to admit that he was wrong. Willden went home and worked all summer on his pitching and developed a slider. He returned to Weber State and again asked Williams for a chance to play. The coach gave him a look, liked what he saw and signed him on. Now a senior, Willden is the ace of the pitching staff, having posted a fine 7-2 record so far this spring. His biggest win of the year came on April 27 against the Brigham Young University team.
