Show September 29, 1967 THE WEBER STATE SIGNPOST Page 5 Ouch!! it's a Tight Fit Etaren ny Joe S The autumn colored moun-tainslope east of the Weber State campus Wasn' t the only change noticed by students this past week. Traffic congestion and finding a parking place were the biggest challenges students had to meet. Over 500 parking stalls "disappeared" this year as excavations for the new Science Building and the Union Building extention were made. Each morning this week, most of Weber State's students, faculty and staff members, including the campus construction workers drove at a "snail's pace" for several blocks before entering the campus. WSC administrative officials have been urging since registration that students share rides with each other until additional parking areas could be finished. Within the next two months an estimated 800 additional parking spaces will be made available. An area northwest of the Administration Building will make way for 410 spaces. It will be temporary until construction begins on the new Administrative and Education complex. The present lawn will be removed andre-planted as soon as a sprinkling system can be installed for an athletic field southwest of gymnasium Another major parking area for over 300 t )aces will be started soon north of the stadium. This will be a permanent area as part of the college's master plan. West of the reservoir and north of the new Science Building will be a triangular area for about 70 spaces. An additional 250 spaces north of the Residence Halls is yet to be graded, although during the week. However, as soon as wet weather comes, officials report the area will probably be unusable in most cases. Dr. Robert A. Clarke, administrative vice president, said that construction of parking lots had been delayed because state funds had not been released.Security officials are advising students to park as near to the center of the campus as possible, and not off the campus on side streets where residents will complain. SGT. Carver of the Security Department said that all students are expected to have de-cals on their car's left rear . Wright bumper by Monday. He also said that everyone on campus will be expected to obey all rules and regulations for campus traffic beginning Monday. "This year, all parking areas have been converted to 90 degree parking so as to minimize space," Carver said. ' 'The new change takes 9 feet 6 inches per car compared to the 45 degree parking each row." The security officer urged students to allow themselves plenty of time between home and school, especially during wet weather. Officers will help direct students to parking areas not filled during the first weeks of school. Tyler Avenue has been resurfaced this week by Ogden City. Resurfacing was delayed because of heavy trucks using the street during excavation for the UnionBuilding. Stay in school, complete your education. This is the way to a good job and all the rewards that come with it (and we don't mean just the financial ones). That is the message we put across whenever we go to high schools and counsel students on their careers. Why do we do this? We realize that the greatest natural resource any country can have is its young people. From ttakr ranks will emerge our future leaders. So by helping them now, everybody (including us) will benefit later. We believe that our career-counseling sessions, and the scholarships, fellowships and college grants we provide, are encouraging more young people to complete their education.
