Each quarter, a campus married student may purchase a $5 activity card for his spouse. The student's partner will then be eli-gilbe to attend all campus activities at student rates. Athletic events will be free to the married couples. The measure, introduced by Tom Welch, senator-at-large, was passed Monday by the Senate. The ilson, ASWSC during a session vote was 12 to one in favor of the proposal. In other Senate business, two new budgets were established, swelling to 40 the number os student subsidized organizations. The hotly debated spouse card issue began when Welch and financial vice president Brent Wilson created opposing proposals to help married students. In the past, married students have been required to buy general admission tickets for their wives when attending athletic events. Then, the student was forced to sit in the student section, while his wife was directed to a general admission seat. Wilson was assigned by student-body president Perry Perea to investigate the matter and propose a solution to Executive Cabinet. The financial vice president suggested a $15 spouse card, ($15 per quarter or $45 per year), which would allow married students to bring their partners at no cost to all athletic events. The card PERSONAL x "J financial vice president, discuss dif- Monday of the student Senate. students" fees could also be used at other campus functions to obtain student rates. His proposal was passed by Ec-ecutive Cabinet. More than 35 married students interviewed by the Signpost, rejected Wilson's idea as "ridiculous.""It would be cheaper to pay full admission price at all athletic events, than to buy a spouse card," said married students chairman Lynn Bailey. In response to the objection, Executive Cabinet suggested three less expensive cards. These proposals were never introduced in Senate. The $5 proposal was backed by Perea and the married students committee. The president said he would sign the bill to make it official. Newly established budgets during the Senate session, were for the Community Service Bureau and Weber State Rodeo Club.
