Excelsior reporter John Stait knows exactly where his copy goes, now that the new copy box has been installed in the Signpost office. Weber State College has received approval of a $500,000 federal loan to help finance major expansion of Union Building facilities.Sen. Frank E. Moss, who made the announcement last week, said the half-million dollar loan is provided through the federal college housing loan program administered by the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development. Approval of the loan insures the start of construction of facilities west of the present Union Building structure next April. According to James R. Foulger, WSC treasurer, new construction will cost $2 million, with the additional 1.5 million to be financed through the sale of revenue bonds by the college. The sale was authorized by the Weber State College Board of Trustees last June 21. Repayment of the loan and bonds, he said, would be through revenue from the use of building and other student facilities at Weber State. The loan will be repaid over a 40-year period at 3 per cent interest. The $2 million project will include a major expansion of food facilities, construction of a skyline room and ball-room, larger bookstore and student offices, nearly doubling the size of present facilities. Also included in construction plans is the building of alumni offices which, according to school officials, is the first such complex to be built specifically for a college alumni association. Two offices, one for the alumni board director and one for the development fund board director, will be adjoined by a reception room. Application for the loan was submitted several months ago, Dr. Foulger said, with funds reserved pending final approval of expansion plans. Dr. Foulger said the college has another $2 million available to furnish the addition is complete. It is the first Weber State College project to be financed through both private and federal funds. Completion of the addition is projected by college officials for summer, 1968. Signpost Installs New Innovations One of the new innovations in the Signpost office this year is the addition of a copy box. Individual file boxes had previously been arranged around the room, but this procedure often resulted in the loss of copy or a mix-up in story distribution to the proper editors. Signpost Editor J. Ryan Rees said, "this new box, if properly used, by reporters, will greatly solve many of our past problems. Stories properly pigeon-holed can be correctly handled." Another new addition to the Signpost office includes a bulletin board brought up from the old Weber College campus. It is the original "Signpost" bulletin board used by the students before the establishment of a student newspaper.
