Team Heads Girl's Basketball Competition and cooperation both find their place in today's WAA schedule as the groups combine to produce an assembly and then enter into the second round of basketball play. The theme of the assembly is fashions in sports but the group promises that clothes aren't the chief item of intertainment. In last week's competition Chan-odo lost to L. D. and the independents won oyer OT. Sharmea drew a bye. A single game was played the previous week between the independents and Chanodo. After a hard fought battle the independents finally won out. As a result of their victories, the independents now lead the basketball competition with two wins and no losses. L. D. and Sharmea are tied for second with one win each. The Squaws of Otyowka are in fourth spot with one defeat and Chanodo is fifth with two defeats. Girls' IM Standi!"" Ricks stayed at the head of the pack by belting Dixie 77-(i4 and CSU 81-;0 during the week. Boise remained unscathed after a nip-and-tuck tilt with Northwest Nazarene, conference newcomer. The Broncos won this one on their home court however and found the going rougher Monday at Nampa, home of NNC. Last Friday Weber came up with a sleeper in reserve forward Frank Berrett and walked all over the CSU Aggies as Berrett led the Wildcats in a l7-r;1 rout with 20 points. Saturday, Berrett started his first game of the year and poured through 24 counters as Weber grounded the Dixie Flyers 76-54 in a hard fought battle. Two games over the week-end with Boise and Northwest Nazarene will give the Cats a chance to climb higher in the rankings. Two losses would practically knock Weber out of contention for championship honors. If basketball coach, R. K, Swenson thinks he has some potent scorers he should take a peek at what Carol Slater Westmorland has been performing in the girls' intramural program. Donna Miller recently poured through 3( points in a basketball game while playing for L. D. and Audrey Harris racked up 2S points for Chanodo immediately after she had polished off a double game of squash! i Awai etwee Is Gage Clash n Sigma, Excels The men's intramural athletic program has been booming since the onset of winter quarter, with basketball the major item of IM play and games being run off at the rapid rate of 12 a week. It is, as of yet, too early to predict the winner of basketball play. It seems certain, however, that Excelsior I and Sigma II will meet for the title. Both teams have kicked around opponents all quarter and at the present rate of games being played they should meet sometime next week. It has been rumored that Sigma had come through with a powerhouse in its team II but hardly anyone gave it a second thought until the sigs rocked Excels II in last Friday's varsity preliminary. The score was "il-jii. One school day later, Monday. Excels I also took measure of Team II by the score of 50-39. The faculty (which incidentally is in third place in IM standings) is still in the race for top honors. The instructors are once defeated but are still considered strong enough to place. Ping Pong, paddle ball, skiing, and water polo are next on tap in the broad IM program. The faculty is mapping plans (and already counting points) for participation in ping pong and paddle ball. Alpha Rho is traditionally tough in the winter outdoor sports and already the Knights are waxing down their skis in preparation for intramural competition on the Snow Basin slopes. Sigma and Excelsior reportedly have strong entries planned for the ski fest also and competition promises to be keen. Water polo looks like it's going to be as vicious as ever this year, especially if the gap between Excelsior and followers is somewhat narrowed. Excelsior still leads the IM race with 520 points. Its closest rival is Sigma which seems to have taken over the challenging role in this year's race. Sigma has 250 points. Weber's ferocious faculty is a surprise to everyone as it has sole possession of third place with 170 points. Phoenix has 140 points and Alpha Rho 40.
