New Twist This reporter, while thinking these things over, decided to look up a few statistics regarding the operation of this well-known location.According to the manager' Far-rell Shepherd, the bookstore handles between three and four hundred different titles in books. The book which sells the most copies is, not too surprisingly, the English I book. Many Mathematics and Chemistry books are also sold. The one single item called for most in the bookstore is filler paper., and not far behind this are index cards and spiral notebooks. Grosses of pencils and loose-leaf binders are purchased by students during the year. The bookstore is unique in having a new cash register which not only registers the amount of purchase but tells the customer how much change he receives. This new register, since being installed two weeks before last quarter started, has been opened over 5,800 times. On an ordinary day, the bookstore will have around 305 customers buying lunch items and candy. Unusual Books One of the most unusual series of books sold is the Modern Library Series which contains the works of the great philosophers. A few unusual items sold, in the way of school supplies, are Welding goggles, gloves, and helmets. It's easy to know just what equipment certain teachers will require their students to have, by what things are bought. During research theme time, lots of index cards and theme folders are called for. The bookstore handles all school supplies, from crepe paper to typewriters. Their goal is to have anything the student needs. According to Mr. Shepherd, the motto of the bookstore is "the customer is the most valuable asset." Suggestions will gladly be welcomed by the bookstore, on what supplies and items will make it more convenient for students when the new building opens. Your Campus Service Station Carl Favero, Manager Annex Is One Big Mess Litter, Debris Cover Floor By Bob Grondel The hissing of the steam as it moves through the pipes and the intermingled odor of flat base paint and sawdust are your first impressions of the unfinished cafeteria-lounge. The hissing comes from the mass of pipes in the rear of the control room to your left. Writhing electrical wires crawl over the wall and end in a formation of open-mouthed switch boxes. You Make the News The managing editor of the Daily Trojan recently got a traffic ticket because he wasn't paying proper attention to the important job of driving his car. And why was his mind wandering while he was behind the wheel? Because he was trying to think up angles for a campaign his paper was conducting a traffic safety campaign. wood piled on the floor contrast with the bare-raftered ceiling. Stands Silent Half-a-dozen steps further down the hallway is the kitchen. Before the unconnected stove an arrogantly new sink stands, taunting its silent predecessor on the west. The solitary can-opener snatches at your attention as you look beyond it, through the wide slit in the wall into the semi-dark cafeteria-to-be. The litter of materials, visible in the half-light from the partially shaded windows, leave a stopped-watch feeling in your throat. Inside the room a mirror and the stainless steel finish behind the U-shaped counter play the light off the front wall onto the surrounding headless stools. Unsteaming Radiaotrs Deeper into the right of the room, debris-filled carboard boxes . form a backdrop for a duet of lifeless steam radiators. Across from the radiators an array of empty five-gallon paint cans and a dry roller verify the origin of the helio ceiling and tannish walls. To the rear of the boxes rolls of brownish linoleum and a misplaced wheel-barrow are set-off by the pale whiteness of discarded crating planks. A folded dark-green carpet covers the planking in front of the open back-office door. To the east a lone sink comes before the yawning mouths of soon-to-be officers. Glancing in at the disarray of shelving and the gaping light fixture holes in the ceiling, you pass on down the room and out the eastern double-doors. LIVE A LITTLE!
